More Documentaries in Class = a Very Sleepy Taylor

We've been studying climate change and Global Warming over the last week or two and we've been watching documentaries from people on both sides of the fence.  One documentary we watched included the president of Maldives and his worries.  He's worried that because the ice caps are melting and flooding his country.  And he's blaming the richer countries for Global Warming.  I think he should worried but I think that instead of wasting his time complaining about how the Untied States has caused these problems, he should be doing things in his country to prevent it from flooding.  The second video also talks about rising sea level due to melting ice caps.

What Was That Documentary About Again?

We watched a video about global warming...I think.  From this 896419874361 year long video, I learned that Dumbo was a real boy that grew up into a former editor or something and then became a scientist around the age that he should be prepping his deathbed.

But seriously, I think that Global Warming is real.  I think the things that caused it are different.  I believe Dumbo.

Can you fix my Alt key?

We did projects on natural disasters.  I did my project on forest fires but I can't talk about that.  Something I learned from the other projects would be...

Ryan and Travis like coffee cups.

Also that the Shakkiafkjdf;askdjf whatever it is called that Ashley and Justin did their project on killed the most people.

Earthquakes in Japan and Documentaries in Class

Last week, we watched a BBC documentary about the tragedy that struck Japan in March 2011.  A small earthquake triggered a huge earthquake which in turn triggered a tsunami.  This disaster left people without homes, without food, without hope and some without lives.  According to the official toll, these tragedies left 15,839 dead, 5,950 injured, and 3,642 missing.

WHAT CAN BE LEARN FROM THIS EVENT?
People can learn how to better protect themselves from the forces of nature because Mother Nature dances to the beat of her own drums.  A drum so superior, after many years, decades, however long we have actually been researching things such as these, we still have yet to comprehend fully.  And the beat of this hypothetical drum?  We have hardly seen was destruction this beat can cause.

Did that make sense?

The Japanese have spent however long and however much money trying to Mother-Nature-proof their country.  These tragedies show that Mother Nature doesn't like when you try to outsmart her.  She's like the loner in the back of the class who looks like they aren't pay attention and Japan and humanity as a whole would be the teacher thinking that they would be able to embarrass the kid.  But what this teacher doesn't know is that the student already knows the answer.  The student in turn humiliates the teacher, and the teacher is forced to work hard at regaining order.

BP Oil Spill

The BP oil spill was big and bad and messy.  BP tried to contain the oil spewing from the center of the earth by putting this big ol' metal dome over top of it but it didn't work.  The dome was like 70 million tons or something like that and had a tube on the top so that they could still get the oil and make money but not as much of a mess.  If I remember correctly, the dome cracked and therefore they wasted a buttload of money on top of the money that they were losing into the ocean and on the beaches and everywhere else.

Testing My Water

After testing my drinking water, the results have shown that my tap water has nothing in it.

Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter

I'm doing a project.
Can you take a guess what it's about?

I'll give you a hint, it had nothing to do with I Set My Friends on Fire.  (Thanks Travis.)

I am researching Slaughterhouses and the Meat Packing Industry.
And by I, I mean Taylor and I...mainly Taylor though.
And by Taylor, I mean the other Taylor, the Shipley one because I stopped talking about my self in third person FOUR minutes ago.

Anyway, we're telling you all the stuff about Slaughterhouses and how the like to whip little chicks like it's their hair.

 Just like that.

They also kick cows in the face and hit them with brooms.
Why would they do such things?
I dunno.  Maybe it's to tenderize the meat.

Um, there's some other stuff in our presentation, like facts and statistics but you'll have to see our presentation though.

YOU SHOULD IGNORE THE LACK OF ACTUAL BRAIN CONTENT IN THIS POST AND THINK ABOUT THIS...

Doodie Saves

...what?
So, there's this guy-Steve Reinford- and he uses his cows' fecal matter to save him money.  Well, it costed him about a million bucks but that was three years ago and he's happy with the work this machine has been doing.
What is this machine, you ask?  Well, IT'S CALLED AN ANAEROBIC DIGESTOR.
And what does this digester thing do, exactly?  It turns cow poopie into energy.

What makes this really awesome, other than the fact that his name is Steve like the guy from Blue's Clues, is that instead of paying an electric company money every month, they send him a check.

I don't know about you guys but I'm thinking about becoming a dairy farmer.

I'm getting off topic again, sorry.

So this digester machine takes all the bacteria and turns it into methane which can be used as energy.  Then the machine leaves the farmer (Steve) with liquid poo and he can use this liquid-y poo to fertilize his land.  It also leaves him with some solid something that he can use for the cows' bedding and stuff.

Some people doubt this poo power but even Chesapeake Bay Commission Executive Director Ann Swanson says it works.

"The longer we look at it, the more it is going to make sense," she said. "When you look at the different types of energy, some of them, like wind, are non-polluting. However, none of them, other than this one, reduces pollution. And that is pretty amazing."

So yeah, doodie saves the environment, money, lives, friendships, marriages, and polar bears.

Court Case Presented in Enviromental Movie

In the movie Erin Brockovich, a movie in which a woman with financial struggles get  a job at the law office of her lawyer and comes a across a case that peaks her curiosity.  This particular case deals with a family in a town called Hinkley that has been getting sick for some unknown reason.  After pulling some slick Sherlock Holmes investigative moves, Erin Brockovich finds out that the company PG&E, has been lying to the community by telling them that there was Chromium 3 in their water opposed to the Chromium 6 that was actually there.  The reason they were lying to the people was because Chromium 6 is bad.  I'm talking, give you cancer, kill you, possibly make you grow arms from your tummy, bad.
The reason Chromium 6 was so bad for these people was because it was making them extremely ill and causing them to have terrible health problems.  Such a naughty, naughty watering place area.  I think it gave them cancer.  (Jerk-ish water dirt!)
Erp, I lost my train of thought.

Still haven't found it.

FOUND IT!  =D

Yeah, the Chromium 6 was a jerk.
The water company was a jerk.
They lied and sturrrrff.
But Erin Brockovich was all like, "No, jerks.  These people are too young to die!"

The Water That Enters My Facehole-Mouth.

The drinking water at my house comes from the Fairchance Boro Water Department.  According to EWG Tap Water Database, my water company uses Haloacetic Acids during the filtration process that can cause long term health problems such as cancer, and other stuff.  There's also Trihalomethanes including Chloroform and other long-lengthed words that aren't as important as the fact that I AM DRINKING CHLOROFORM!  What the chicken soup!?  These trihalomethanes chemicals can cause problems with the nervous system, kidney, liver, heart, pregnancies.  Thank you "trihalomethanes" for killing my nonexistent babies.  You jerks.  WHAT DID THEY EVER DO TO YOU?  There's also human feces in my water with a little byproducts, pesticides, lawn runoff.  YAY!  -__-  Maybe that's the reason why my water tastes like crap and is on occasions, brown.
